The National Youth Wind Orchestra Luxembourg (NYWOL) is an organization of the Music School of the National Federation of Music of Luxembourg, “Union Grand-Duc Adolphe” (UGDA), which gathers annually for a rehearsal session followed by a concert tour in a different European country.
.
The orchestra first assembled in 1974 for a concert tour in Czechoslovakia, followed by a tour in 1976 in the United States (Illinois and Michigan) upon invitation from the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Since 1991, annual sessions have taken place in Belgium, Spain, France, Great Britain, Italy, Portugal, Wales, the Netherlands, and Germany. Additionally, the NYWOL returned to America in 2015 and 2019.
The orchestra consists of around sixty young musicians, aged between 13 and 21, coming from various conservatories, music schools, or music societies in Luxembourg. Many of them are laureates of the Luxembourg Competition for Young Soloists.
.
The orchestra aims to promote the training of young musicians in Luxembourg, perform a diverse repertoire of concert band works, including original compositions for wind orchestra by European and Luxembourgish composers, and encourage youth exchanges with other countries. The orchestra collaborates with professionals from music schools and conservatories in Luxembourg.
